The pigs are monitored under the RSPCA freedom foods scheme and are annually inspected to ensure that standards are being adhered to.
Freedom foods is the only UK farm assurance scheme dedicated to improving farm welfare. The welfare standards are based on veterinary and scientific research and currently more comprehensive than current requirements of the UK and EU.
They are based on the five freedoms:

• Freedom from hunger and thirst
• Freedom from discomfort
• Freedom from pain and injury
• Freedom to express natural behaviour
• Freedom from fear and distress
