It’s not just about the pigs! Border Terrier Jack is a special little chap!

“I am Andrew Freemantle the owner of Jack the dog. In the Western Morning News (Jan. 17th) a reader, Peggy Cheney wrote a letter in about him, offering to start a fan club because he had such a happy face.

I can tell Peggy and anyone else who is interested, that Jack has lived at Kenniford Farm since 1997 when he was born, so he his 16 this year, which is 100 in dog years!

Whenever we have the press on the farm he is always interested in what’s going on, which is why he tends to get photographed a lot. He loves coming with me in the tractor and has spent hours keeping me company as I work in the fields.

He has also travelled all over the Westcountry, going to farm sales. Despite his age he still likes to go for long walks every day, but as I write this his is fast asleep snoring by the aga.

He is an excellent example of why Border Terriers are so popular. They have a long life expectancy, are very loyal, reasonably obedient, good with kids, and are very easy to look after.

I often recommend Borders to people who see him when they visit our farm shop. So thank you Peggy for noticing what a special little chap he is!”

His farm shop has built up a good reputation locally and along with supplying free range pork from his 280 sow herd to catering, retail and processing clients he also runs a busy hog roasting service, catering vans from three Countrywide stores and at many local shows.

Andrew has been a client and a friend of the practice for a number of years and we look forward to working with him and seeing the farm progress further in the future.”

Young Farmer of the Year - Regional Winner

Just a quick note but with a huge thank you for providing such a splendid meal for so many people at Jake and Jackie’s wedding at Fursdon last week. I have lost count of the number of people who have said that it was the best pork they have ever tasted and that the crackling was AMAZING. I’ve heard similar reports on the halal lamb and indeed all comments on the catering offer high praise indeed. Your business is to be highly recommended and I will be passing on the word, as will the guests who have all been hugely impressed.

Please would you also pass on my thanks to your staff. They were  professional, calm, committed and reassuring throughout the event, worked incredibly hard and noticed just what was needed. The young lasses who served at the drinks reception and finished preparing the canapes were absolutley splendid - quietly competent, patient, responsive and efficient, as were the bar staff too. They worked later than expected as timescales slipped and were very concerned to not leave until everything was done. A trully remarkable operation and very much appreciated.

Have been meaning to e mail you to say how much everyone enjoyed the hog roast you provided for the Druce wedding at the Old Rectory in Chulmleigh on 10^th September – especially the crackling – it was to die for!!!  How did you do it – we all want to know!

The pig and the salads were all delicious and you and your staff were a delight to work with so many thanks from a very satisfied wedding party!

I just want to send to you an e-mail to say that the hog roast you provided for our Evening Wedding Reception (23rd July 2011) was amazing. Our Wedding guests commented highly on the flavour and texture of the meat and your staff were very friendly and extremely efficient.

I tried to send a few photos of the hog roast for your amusement but it was unable to deliver.
